Social Media for Dummies

Contrary to the belief of some, social media is not about updating the world on your status in line at Starbucks, whether or not your wife is taking too long to get dressed or who you’re interested in dating.

Do you know when they matter?

All of those facts are only relevant if you tell your friends and followers what you had at Starbucks and why you liked it or didn’t like it.

Where you wife purchased her shoes and dress for the evening.

And which site you used to find the dates you actually enjoy.

It’s about building a following, engaging them with smart, funny or insightful information they can’t find elsewhere and letting them know you’re a resource, not just a salesman.

Some have argued that a successful social media campaign is more like Dale Carnegie and less like David Olgalvy.

In fact, American Express’ OPEN recently released a website and book they’ve been mailing to their customers entitled “A Practical Guide to Business Growth” which proves you have to be a dummy to not use social media to grow your business.
